“And surely one of the more astonishing rewards of artmaking comes when people make time to visit the world you have created.”
Art and Fear by David Bales and Ted Orland
This weekend I had the opportunity to participate in a local “paint out” on the grounds of the Morven Museum in Princeton,NJ. I’ve never done this before mostly because I had concern with crowds and “on lookers” being a distraction. Interestingly, I accept that with some regularity as a “plein air’ painter. Perhaps this had more to do with the idea of it being an “organized” event and some “expectation” of my own in that prospect. None the less it was a wonderful experience!
As it turned out, one of the most special parts about my time there were the “on lookers” and their inspiring comments. In those moments I felt community in the journey. On some level we were experiencing a similar joy in the experience and I think that’s what I hope comes through in all my paintings. I look forward to participating again next year!
This weeks question for consideration:
How do you feel when people take time to visit the world you have created?
