I am reading from Holley Gerth’s “Do What You Can” Plan and came across a quote by Brene Brown.
“Fitting in and belonging are not the same thing, and, in fact, fitting in gets in the way of belonging. Fitting in is about assessing a situation and becoming who you need to be to be accepted. Belonging, on the other hand, doesn’t require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are.”
Being an artist, for me is about being “who we are”. It’ taken me a long time to see that being who I am is the only place I belong because it’s “Me”. I can be no other way without struggle and conflict. As I consider this I know I am a work in progress. Acceptance is a large part of garnering the peace and serenity that come with being “who I am”.
Do you have a story about being “who you are”? Are you fully there”?
